At the Manila International Auto Show, GAC Philippines marked a significant step in its electrification journey with a broader range of hybrid and electric vehicles. Anchored by the launch of the GS8 HEV, the brand’s lineup reflected a growing emphasis on combining performance, efficiency, and premium features across multiple segments.

The Flagship Hybrid SUV: GAC GS8 HEV

At the center of the lineup is the GS8 HEV, a full-size SUV designed to deliver both power and refinement. Built around GAC’s “Star Diamond” design philosophy, it features a bold exterior highlighted by a prominent grille, LED lighting elements, and a strong, upright stance reinforced by 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the GS8 HEV adopts a spacious 2-3-2 seating configuration with premium leather finishes and a focus on comfort. The front seats offer power adjustment, memory, and ventilation, while the second row provides generous legroom and flexibility. A power-folding third row allows the cabin to shift easily between passenger and cargo use, complemented by a panoramic sunroof that enhances the sense of space.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with the 4th Generation Toyota Hybrid System, producing 140kW and 320Nm of torque. An E-Four all-wheel-drive system and multiple drive modes, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Off-road, allow the GS8 HEV to adapt to various road conditions while maintaining a smooth, quiet driving experience.

Technology and safety are central to the package. A 14.6-inch infotainment display works alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 540-degree surround-view camera system enhance driver confidence.

The GS8 HEV is priced at PHP2,488,000, with an introductory offer of PHP2,338,000.

A Glimpse of the Next Hybrid MPV: GAC E8 HEV

Also previewed is the E8 HEV, a seven-seater MPV designed with families in mind. It combines a hybrid powertrain with long-range capability, delivering up to 1,200 kilometers of combined range.

The cabin emphasizes comfort and flexibility, with second-row seats featuring ventilation and massage functions, along with a large 14.6-inch touchscreen. With a maximum cargo capacity of 1,917 liters, the E8 HEV is designed to adapt to both daily commuting and long-distance travel.

Luxury and Electrification: GAC GN8 PHEV

For buyers seeking a more premium experience, the GN8 PHEV blends executive comfort with electrified efficiency. Its 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid system delivers over 240hp and offers up to 1,038 kilometers of combined range, along with 106 kilometers of pure electric driving.

Inside, the GN8 PHEV focuses on first-class comfort, with second-row captain’s chairs equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. A refined cabin environment is supported by a PM2.5 air quality system and a premium sound system, positioning it as a high-end alternative in the MPV segment.

Expanding the EV Lineup: GAC AION V & GAC HYPTEC HT

GAC’s battery-electric vehicle offerings include the AION V and HYPTEC HT, each targeting different use cases.

The AION V is a mid-size electric SUV built for everyday practicality, offering up to 600 kilometers of range and fast-charging capability from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes. Its cabin features a 14.6-inch display and a suspension setup tuned for local driving conditions.

The HYPTEC HT, positioned as a flagship electric SUV, takes a more premium approach. It features distinctive gullwing-style doors, a refined interior with Nappa leather, and reclining rear seats. With a range exceeding 600 kilometers and ultra-fast charging from 10% to 70% in just 15 minutes, it combines performance, luxury, and convenience.

A Broader Mobility Strategy

GAC’s presence at MIAS highlights a strategy that goes beyond a single technology. The brand is expanding across hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and full electric platforms, offering multiple paths toward electrified mobility.

With models ranging from full-size SUVs and MPVs to fully electric crossovers, the lineup reflects a practical approach to modern driving. Rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all solution, GAC is building a portfolio that lets drivers choose based on their needs, whether they prioritize performance, efficiency, or everyday usability.
