The “NCIS” universe is getting ready for its next mission, this time it’s heading straight to New York City.
CBS officially greenlit “NCIS: New York” for the 2026–27 television season, marking yet another expansion of the iconic franchise which has been on the air since 2003. LL Cool J is returning to the franchise as the lead, who will reprise his beloved role as Sam Hanna, a character he first introduced on “NCIS: Los Angeles” and later revisited in the final season of “NCIS: Hawai’i.”
Joining him is Scott Caan, set to portray a “roguish agent” who leads the team alongside Hanna, promising a dynamic partnership.
CBS announced the series as part of its upcoming schedule. “When you’re home to the number one television franchise in the world, you must build on success and keep expanding the universe,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said at a press event, per Hollywood Reporter. “And quite frankly, our fans demand it.”
While many fans are excited, some remain skeptical.
“So Scott is in a new role, not the same role when they had crossovers with Hawaii 5-0? This show is crap. And it hasn’t even started yet,” one X user claimed.
Another agreed, writing, “Scott Caan needs to come back as Danny, they had crossovers.”
Slated for a fall debut, “NCIS: New York” will air on Tuesdays, positioned between the flagship “NCIS” and “NCIS: Origins.” Meanwhile, “NCIS: Sydney” is set to take over at midseason.
The series marks LL Cool J’s third stint as a regular within the franchise. He’s also set to make guest appearances on the original “NCIS” later this year.
