It’s official: pop star Dua Lipa and James Bond front-runner Callum Turner are married. Ahead of the couple’s lavish three-day Sicilian wedding – rumoured to be going ahead in Palermo later this week – the pair tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London on Sunday. It’s a historic, storied venue, particularly for musicians, previously hosting the nuptials of Sir Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman, and Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit.
The ever-stylish 30-year-old – multi-award-winning singer and one of Britain’s biggest Gen Z stars – opted for an ivory skirt suit designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli for the occasion. The tailored blazer featured the fashion house’s surrealist signatures, including golden buttons in the shape of a lion’s head, evil eye and griffin, and visible nude hip padding, the latter detail baffling some commentators on social media.
The skirt had an asymmetrical cut, with the star’s Stephen Jones white-brimmed hat with gold-leaf detail mirroring the wave design. She completed her look with pointy Christian Louboutin heels, white gloves, and a Bulgari Serpenti necklace and diamond earrings. Her new husband meanwhile was her “something blue”, wearing a navy Ferragamo suit by British designer Maximilian Davis, with matching shirt and tie in varying shades of blue.
Lipa has worn countless Schiaparelli designs in the past, including on stage for her Radical Optimism tour, and she has attended Roseberry’s shows, sitting on the front row. This marks the first time she has worn a hat by Jones (who has made millinery for Victoria Beckham, Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss and many more) but as the in-house milliner for Schiaparelli, it was a natural choice. She’s also an ambassador for Bulgari, making it unsurprising she wore the jewellery house’s necklace and earrings – after all, weddings are now as much a branding exercise as a display of love and commitment.
Turner, who is one of the actors tipped to be the next James Bond, has worn Ferragamo in the past, but is actually a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton, sparking rumours he may wear that brand for the official wedding later this week.
While it used to be that the town hall element of a wedding only required a simple dress and suit, today’s brides and grooms are seeing it as another excuse to get dressed up. Indeed, there is a growing trend – since the emergence of small, intimate weddings during the pandemic – for couples to focus just as much sartorial energy on the civil ceremony as the big day itself. For brides, this usually means the opportunity to wear a chic mini-dress or suit that would not be appropriate for a more lavish ceremony. Case in point was singer Charli XCX, who wore a Vivienne Westwood mini-dress for her Hackney Town Hall wedding in 2025.
Dua Lipa’s attire drew immediate comparisons with some of the chicest brides in history, with Bianca Jagger as the main reference. The Nicaraguan philanthropist and model broke with convention by wearing an Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking skirt suit for her 1971 Saint-Tropez town hall wedding to Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, foregoing a blouse underneath and showing off her décolletage in a plunging jacket. The suit itself was chosen as a way to hide her pregnancy, with chic details like the wide-brimmed hat and gloves added as a nod to the occasion.
In the years since, it has been an endlessly referenced look: in 2014, Amal Clooney wore a cream trouser suit with a matching wide-brimmed hat for her civil wedding to George, while in 2018, model Emily Ratajkowski cited Jagger as the inspiration behind her yellow Zara trouser suit and black hat for her wedding to Sebastian Bear-McClard.
Another bride inspired by Jagger – and whose look is very similar to that of Lipa – was Jemima Goldsmith, who wore an ivory skirt suit by Bruce Oldfield for her civil wedding to Imran Khan in 1995. Others online are also drawing comparisons with the pale blue Dior look and wide-brimmed hat worn by Rita Hayworth for her 1949 wedding in the south of France to Prince Aly Khan, with Lipa’s skirt suit having a subtle blue undertone.
Meanwhile, it is rumoured that Simon Porte Jacquemus, designer of the namesake brand, has designed her Sicilian wedding look. The two are close friends, with the singer attending his wedding in March 2022. Whatever she wears, it’s clear that it won’t be a conventional white lace gown, but something bold, unexpected and high fashion, as has become her sartorial USP.
